Rendsburger hot dip galvanization plant
The Rendsburger hot dip galvanization plant, a company of the HOBBY-caravan company has been operating a hot dip galvanization plant since 1973.
Steadily increasing demand for caravans and camping vans, ever increasing market for general galvanized goods and increased environmental regulations have more or less forced the company management to build a new hot dip galvanization plant. After an intensive analysis of requirements, where we were involved at an early stage in the form of an engineering contract, it became quite clear that only a modern hot dip galvanization plant with encapsulated pre-treatment and automatic transportation systems would be sufficient to satisfy the requirements of the operator. The location of the existing galvanization plant had to be retained in the future for logistical reasons. After approximately eight months construction time a galvanization plant, embedded into modern, very appealing architecture then existed with a completely automatic production sequencet. Up to 10,000 tons of material per year are galvanized in a double shift operation in a zinc bath with a boiler size of 7 m long, 2.8 m deep and 1.2 m wide. Building a complete new works at the same location while the old galvanization plant continued to operate was a special challenge for all the companies participating in the new construction. Another requirement of the customer was that no production day was to be lost because of the construction and change over to the new plant. The existing galvanization plant was completely roofed over with a new hall, equipped with a pre-treatment unit, dryer, galvanization ovens and Scheffer transportation technology then put into operation. The existing galvanization plant was shut down after a very short trial period of only two working weeks and the production was completely changed over to the new plant. The old galvanization plant was then demolished to finish the job. The entire investment process took place without intervening into the on-going production.
