Cranes for sheet metal transportation
When transporting sheet metal, the dimensions, quality and orientation of the material have to be established. Small, medium or large formats on their own can be transported by a crane with just one trolley and a mechanical gripper – the Scheffer Starlifter – for transporting single or multiple packages. This type of gripper can also be combined with magnet lifting technology to make order picking easier and quicker.
For thick metal plates that exceed the above-mentioned formats, such as rolling lengths or non-standard dimensions, flexible double trolley solutions that can be adapted to the different dimensions can also be used in combination with magnet lifting technology. It is also necessary to distinguish whether metal sheets have to be picked up and transported horizontally or vertically.
Gripper operation
The motorised gripper arms that can be adjusted length- and crosswise can safely pick up and transport several sheet metal packages in various formats and sizes. The very compact installation size and the possibility of rotating the gripper arms by 90° afford a minimum sheet distance of 250 mm. Furthermore, the sheet metal packages can be rotated by ± 160° to adapt to any handling/warehouse situation. Thanks to the separately operating lifting drives of the gripper arms, packages can be picked up quickly and safely even from inclined planes. What’s more, the torque-controlled gripper force cut-off prevents damage to packages.
Magnetic operation
The gripper arms are moved to their top position by means of a friction drive so that individual sheets and packages can be transported in magnetic operation. The magnets within the gripper can be adjusted length- and crosswise so that sheets and packages of different formats and sizes can be transported safely.
